A Message from Al-Hewar
We need your support

As Al-Hewar Center celebrates its tenth anniversary, we reflect upon how much has been accomplished. The Center, together with Al-Hewar Magazine, featuring the English supplement The Arab-American Dialogue (published since 1989), were founded upon our deep belief in dialogue and its enormous benefits to the community. The events and speakers hosted by the Center tell an incredible tale of a community coming together to share experiences and learn from one another in order to become strong and purposeful (Click here for a Comprehensive List of Events hosted by the Center and click here for a List of Speakers).

Over the years, the Center and the magazine have provided a forum for Arabs and Arab Americans to share their diverse opinions about a myriad of issues. We believe that the United States offers Arabs from different countries the unique opportunity and the freedom to come together to express their opinions and find common ground about many important issues. It also provides the opportunity for Arabs to show the best of Arab culture and Islamic civilization to the larger American society. However, none of this can be achieved without a better understanding by the Arabs of their own culture nor without the unity of purpose that derives from discussing and sharing opinions. How can the Arabs succeed in convincing non-Arabs about the value of Arab culture and the validity of Arab concerns if they cannot convince themselves? It is with these goals in mind, that Al-Hewar Center established its unique and effective style of open and respectful dialogue, often playing a role similar to conflict resolution departments at universities, focusing on subjects related to Arab issues and culture.

As Al-Hewar Center helps Arabs achieve these goals, understanding of their culture and issues will grow within the American society. At the same time, this style of open intra-Arab dialogue is also laying the foundation for an Arab Renaissance.

The platforms provided by Al-Hewar Center and the magazines have come at great personal sacrifice to us, especially financially, but our belief in their importance has never wavered. Even as our debt continues to mount, we continue to do the work. But, this situation cannot last forever. We are reaching a critical point at which we will be forced to limit severely the activities of the Center and the magazine if we do not receive enough support.

If you believe in our work, but have not become a member of the Center, we urge you to do so immediately. Those who are members can encourage their friends and acquaintances to join. We are also grateful for any support and contributions we receive. If you know people who are able to provide substantial contributions to the Center, we urge you to encourage them to do so, and as soon as possible. The need is critical.

Supporting Al-Hewar Center means supporting greater unity, understanding and respect among the Arab community that the Center has been so successful at galvanizing and nurturing! Just imagine what could be achieved if the Center were able to flourish!

Because we care so much about the issues affecting the community, our motto has always been "We subscribe to your issues..." There has never been a more important time for you to subscribe to ours.

Thank you,
Al-Hewar
